My German shepherd has atopic dermatitis is 12 years old and allergic to life itself. In October because her skin condition was poor I changed her to raw diet as her prescription diet was adding to her plight. She is on country hunter rabbit, a few weeks ago she started to get mucous in her faeces and it became slightly softer but still formed at times. She has had colitis before and my vet suggested in first instance to give her 3 days of logic firm to see if this settled the bowel. It seemed to work ,normal stools, there was a small amount of mucous on one occasion . I gathered three stool samples over three days. The results showed Clostridium perfringes and salmonella. my vet suggest treating with Clavaseptin.

There is no more mucous in her stools, they are very firm,no blood in stools and she seems really healthy and well. I didn't expect this. Can you confirm if it is normal for dogs fed on raw diet to have salmonella in their stools. I have read that a dogs stomach acid deals with the salmonella if present in the raw meat and traces of salmonella can generally be found in dog stools fed on raw diet. I haven't yet started her on Clavaseptin.
