One of the first questions people who want to switch their dog to a raw diet often ask, is how much raw food to feed. The quantity of food any dog needs depends on several factors, such as their age, lifestyle, condition, and the nutritional values of the food in question, and whilst their weight will give you a rough guide, our simple calculator can do the work for you and give you an answer with just a couple of questions.
So, How Much Raw Food to Feed My Dog a Day?
It makes sense that more active, or younger dogs will generally burn more calories than older ones. A working dog will certainly need more fuel to burn than a dog that spends most of their day curled up on the sofa! To make matters simple, we’ve created a quick and easy raw dog food calculator that will suggest suitable products along with recommended quantities once you pop in a few key facts about your furry friend.
Our raw dog food calculator is designed based on European Pet Food Guidelines, which factor in the energy density of the food itself, rather than just the dog’s bodyweight. When looking at a dog nutrition calculator provided by any company, it’s important to remember that manufacturers should be basing their guidelines on the nutritional values of the food they produce, so the recommended amounts will differ from one brand to the next.

Making Your Raw Menu
Ready to start making your dog’s menu? Our dog nutrition calculator can give you suggestions in a matter of minutes. Our complete and balanced Raw nuggets are our best-selling product, offering unbeatable convenience when it comes to raw feeding.
Our nuggets are our best-selling product for a reason – they combine a careful blend of meat, fruit, and vegetables in a fuss-free format, with plenty of different recipes to cater for different tastes and sensitivities. Some also contain a small portion of non-starchy carbohydrates, as some dogs, such as those with a big appetite, can benefit from a little of these.
To serve our nuggets, all you need to do is take out the number you need (as recommended by our raw dog food calculator), defrost and serve. No waste, no mess, just real, quality raw food. Our bags of nuggets are all 1kg and contain between 55-60 nuggets.
Some owners prefer to have complete control over what’s in the bowl, and we also have products that make it easy to mix your own meals at home for the dog in your life. This can be a great option if you want to avoid certain proteins or ingredients. It can also be satisfying to make up your dog’s favourite meal and watch them enjoy every bite!
Our Just Meat range can be easily combined with our Mixers. If you’re mixing your own, we recommend using one of two feeding formulas, the 60/20/20 or the 80/20. (Our Complete Raw Nuggets are available in both formulas.) We suggest the use of a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement to help provide completeness.
Simple Formulas to Follow
Although many owners opt for a higher meat ratio, with our 40 years’ experience we’ve found that the 60/20/20 ration suits many dogs, including those suffering from a range of ailments or older dogs. It’s also a gentle way to introduce your dog to a raw diet.
We use parboiled brown rice or wholegrain oats in our recipe, as these are slow-release, non-starchy carbohydrates and so low in sugar and easier to digest.
This high meat formula is particularly popular with owners who want to avoid carbohydrates completely, whether to help manage weight or other ailments, or because their dog prefers an extra meaty diet! Our much-loved Country Hunter range is created with this formula, is contains no grain or gluten containing ingredients, and with lots of tasty protein options to tempt fussy eaters. The ingredients lists are particularly short, making it easy to identify any dietary issues at play.
